The phenomenal compilation ‘Yebo!‘ from BBE, curated by John Armstrong, features a remarkable selection of 80s Mzansi boogie, disco, and bubblegum tunes. Among the standout tracks in the collection is ‘Blackout’ by the legendary boogie bubblegum duo Tools & Figs.
To add a modern twist to the track, BBE enlisted the expertise of renowned Brisbane-based DJ, producer, Worldwide FM radio host, and The Middle Name Dance Band member Sam Poggioli, also known as Sampology. The result is an extended re-edit that not only embraces the original’s essence but infuses it with a fresh early-2000s South African House/Euro House vibe.
The tune, recorded in 1991 by the On Records crew at Jo’burg’s Cottage Recording Studio, has been masterfully reworked by Sampology, who focuses on Ronnie Robot’s electrifying bass loop and Lady Thuli aka Figs’ multi-layered vocals, resulting in a dynamic remix that’s sure to resonate with listeners.
