Nr: BBE642SDG2024

Description

Tamil Rogeon, the Melbourne based, multifaceted jazz, classical and electronica violin & viola player returns.

Following on from the critical success of his 2021 ‘Son Of Nyx’ album, the modal and spiritual jazz fusion opus which found favour with Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier and Rebecca Vasmant, BBC6 Music’ Cerys Matthews, who demanded and got a live session, Son Of Nyx was also championed by Jazz FM’s Deb Grant, it being made an Album of the Week, with the single ‘House No Wheels’ staying on their playlist for 3 months.

This two track teaser from the forthcoming long player Wave Theory, which musically progresses and builds upon the highly original sound concept established on Son Of Nyx, which was released on Soul Bank Music, Impressive Collective head honcho Greg Boraman’s previous label.

“Gift Of The Gab” finds its sly, knowing groove right away. Anchored by a hypnotic bass line and syncopated drum and percussion. Laden with synth and retro keyboards reminiscent of the deep funk of Herbie Hancock’s late 70s period.
Ascend It explodes into a punchy funk groove, followed by a Miles-Davis-esque violin solo. A restatement of the melody leads to an abrupt and modulated percussive interlude, followed by a series of 70s pentatonic riffs and a propulsive electric piano improvisation.
