Description

Originally released in 1978 and now re-issued on BBE Music, Ångest is an album written and produced by Swedish musician Roger Ekman as an auteur album which tells of Roger’s own travailles with the health system in his homeland of Sweden.

A carefully crafted mix of Latin, Jazz, Folk, Soul, Samba, Country and Acoustic influences, the album was recorded live with a group of musicians made up of students from the renowned Adolf Fredriks Music School in Stockholm. Incredibly this group was put together by Roger when he was working at the school as the caretaker and janitor. This re-issue of Ångest has been remastered from the original audio files and pressed from new lacquers cut at the Grammy nominated The Carvery with the full cooperation and involvement of both Roger Ekman and the album’s sound engineer and co-founder of the acclaimed Swedish label Opus 3, Jan-Eric Persson.

With only 100 copies pressed and given to friends in 1978 this really is a sought after album.

Interestingly this first pressing came with homemade covers created from existing album covers turned inside out and hand stamped with the artist and album name. One copy was even found to have been placed inside a reversed sleeve of Abba’s Arrival.

Curated by record compiler, digger and journalist Paul Hillery, you may recall Roger Ekman’s track Motivationen Måste Vara Stor, featured on Paul’s excellent Folk Funk & Trippy Troubadours Volume Three compilation released by BBE Music in February of this year. That track, originally taken from Ångest, sits alongside seven other rare and thankfully re- discovered songs on this absolute treat of an album. Ångest is released on both vinyl LP and high res. digital download.
