Description

2025 continues to be a big year for Omar, not only does it mark his 40th year as a recording artist, he will soon commence his second North American tour, and with this, his 3rd and final single ahead of his Impressive Collective album ‘Brighter The Days’ he combines his talents with another true British music icon, and as a bonus adds a genuine US jazz legend into the mix.

That Paul Weller guests on and co-wrote On My Own may surprise some, but Weller and Omar goes back to 1989 when a young Omar got his first professional session job with The Style Council as percussionist and backing vocalist on a UK and Japanese tour. The two songwriters have maintained a mutual admiration and friendship for over 35 years.

On My Own erupts from the speakers with a powerful, retro styled rhythm & blues punch, Weller & Omar’s vocals duel across the verses before joining forces on the soaring chorus, that both British legends’ musical trademarks blend together so well should not come as a surprise after all. On creating the track with Paul, Omar states “he sent me the chords, straight away I had it in my head what the beat was supposed to be, I wanted to recreate that vibe, it’s not The Jam, it’s not The Style Council, but it’s definitely Weller!” The final icing on the cake is Blue Note Record artist Ronnie Foster of ‘Mystic Brew’ fame playing Hammond Organ, who also having recorded with Omar’s hero’s, on George Benson and Stevie Wonder’s classic material, is the perfect fit on this neo soul / modernist collaboration.

In contrast, There’s Much Love In The World’s gentle sweeping strings, provided by the Urban Soul Orchestra and arranged by long time collaborator Chris Cameron, melds to stunning effect with Omar’s voice, the lyrical message unashamedly positive and romantic, all laid over a gentle, swinging, sun drenched Latin rhythm that must surely become a new summer anthem as it evokes such ‘blue skies and good times’ feelings.
