Hyper Soul: HEART
Description
Poet, singer, producer and DJ OVEOUS teams up with BBE Music for ‘HEART’, the second in a series of three EPs on the label, titled FIRE, HEART and MEDICINE.
This trio of EPs on BBE tells a musical story that traces the artist’s personal growth, relationships and his “journey through the wonderful, curious maze that is love over the last decade”. As OVEOUS puts it, the project “showcases how I’ve matured in relationships and how I’ve learned to navigate my ego and my heart when times have been dark.”
Second EP ‘Heart’ revolves around feelings of being “connected to someone special in your life and riding that wave we call the ‘honeymoon phase’.” Opening track ‘APPLZ’ is a lighter, bouncier take on ‘Rotten APPLZ’ the closing track from previous EP ‘Fire’. Featuring Aussie vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Julian Steel, ‘APPLZ’ is simply an ebullient celebration of life and love, with a truly magnetic hook.
Featuring Seven Davis Jr, ‘3 Seasons’ was recorded in New York, with OVEOUS laying down the drums and writing the song while Seven Davis Jr added soulful keys. Both artists voice the same verse in their own unique styles, making this collaboration in the truest sense.
Co-produced by Amin Payne aka Teymori, future-soul cut ‘Calculus’ closes ‘HEART’ with a touching tribute to love over an ultra-funky, disco infused groove.
Developing his unique ‘Hyper Soul’ sound since 2007, OVEOUS first made waves with a guest appearance on Osunlade’s “Mirror Dance”, followed by his own production “I Apologize”, which was released on Yoruba Records with remixes from Ezel and Atjazz. OVEOUS has since gone on to work with Roy Ayers, Louie Vega and Boddhi Satva, earning himself well-deserved recognition from the global community as a truly original new voice in House and electronic music. In 2018 OVEOUS and long time collaborator QVLN, released ‘Queimar’, a dance hit lauded by Traxsource as one of their top tracks of the year.
