Description

Heralding their forthcoming album ‘Trouble Fete’, coming later this year, vocalist Badi and producer Boddhi Satva present ‘Virgil Abloh’, a song paying tribute to the Louis Vuitton designer and cultural icon.

Perfectly expressing the contemporary ‘Afrobeats’ vibe combined with Boddhi Satva’s unmistakable ‘Ancestral Soul’ sound, ‘Virgil Abloh’ is an irrepressible uptempo cut, over which Belgian/Congolese rapper Badi spits straight fire in celebration of the first ever American of African descent to become artistic director at a French fashion house.
“For me, Virgil Abloh represents the African of the future. The fact that he achieved the role of artistic director of menswear at a house as prestigious an elitist as Louis Vuitton is so inspiring. Being from African roots, both Boddhi and I can relate…” – Badi

Born in Brussels to Congolese parents, Badi’s early music and lyrics explored the interconnected and dramatic history of both locales, important cultural work that earned him the ‘Paroles Urbaines’ award. His collaboration with ‘Ancestral Soul’ pioneer Boddhi Satva began with 2015’s ‘Intègration’, released on BBE Music. Forthcoming album ‘Trouble Fete’ reflects the pair’s shared experiences between the streets of Brussels and Lisbon, the nights of Abidjan and Kinshasa to the fashion shows of London and Paris.

Virgil Abloh’ is accompanied by a stunning video, shot at the Bushman Café and at infamous party “La Sunday” in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire by talented director and photographer ‘From Abidjan’ with styling by Young Nouchi, perfectly reflecting the song’s deeply rooted, distinctively African celebration of one of its own.

‘Virgil Abloh’ is the first ever release on ‘Batakari’, a brand new collaborative imprint from Boddhi Satva and BBE Music founder Peter Adarkwah. Named after a historic Ghanaian cloth worn into battle, Batakari’s logo was created by respected graphic designer Swifty, the artist responsible for Brownswood and Mo Wax’s label branding among many other projects. With Boddhi Satva in charge of A&R, Batakari’s vision stems from a common goal to nurture ethical, quality creativity by Africans, both on the continent and across the diaspora.
