J Dilla’s ‘Back To The Crib’ Mixtape

Detroit, sometime in the early 2000’s. BBE founder Peter Adarkwah was riding with James Yancey aka J Dilla and happened to enquire about the fantastic music that was blasting through the car stereo speakers. Without another thought, at the end of their journey Dilla passed Peter the tape, a DJ mix he’d recorded for fun.

Fast forward more than 15 years and the tape had become a treasured possession, filled with bitter-sweet memories. To mark a decade since Dilla’s tragic passing, it seemed only right to put this wonderful mix in the safe hands of Boiler Room to share with the world.
