Video

An incredible live disco orchestra from Japan, A Hundred Birds faithfully (and brilliantly) cover a variety of disco and funk classics, choosing to perform the ‘club’ or extended versions, blending them seamlessly in their live sets; quite a sight to behold!

The brainchild of respected Japanese DJ Yoku, A Hundred Birds is an ambitious live collective, performing across Japan since 1996. Already a popular festival orchestra, the group got a taste of international success in the year 2000 when overseas debut “Batonga” was released on Francois Kevorkian’s Wave Music. Fronted by Yoku, who acts as conductor at live shows and keeps the set running continuously like a DJ mix, the band perform an engaging mixture of covers and original material. DISCOvery is a joyful collection of extended cover versions based on the definitive ‘club mixes’ of the 70’s and 80’s, characterized by sublime horn and string arrangements, virtuoso musicianship and a tangible sense of fun. Best described as a devoted tribute to the golden age of disco music, DISCOvery sees A Hundred Bird’s talented players and singers effortlessly tackling a selection of truly iconic records. It’s time to party: Japanese style.
