Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Peter Orlovsky - the three major domo poets from the beat 50's to the end of the 20th century, are gone now and their voices echo and resonate thru time as if they were still doing their juggling poem sound magic performance in some circus street of the Village or San Fran or London or Berlin in swirls of smoke flashing colors om conscious splendor and Allen howls and Gregory alchemizes and Peter moans and I was bout 16 when first met A and P and later G and they WERE poetry walking poetry and made beds comfortable for everyone who came after and invented rap and hop and bop and groove and word and 25 years later I invited them to perform together and I recorded it and there's no better testament to the geniuses they were than the voices and words and songs that you will hear which basically when it comes to the POEM stand far above and beyond the rest.
Jeff Gordon, NY
The Original Beat Generation.
The original Beats made their own rules, celebrating life at the margins of
American society. The movement that begun in the 1940s with Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs soon swelled to include other avant-garde poets and writers, as well as filmmakers and visual artists on both the East and West Coasts.
There are many parallels between the Beat Poets of the past and the musical Beats of the now
Although once rejected by mainstream society as outlaws, rebels, and being morally dangerous, today the Beats are recognised as icons of Americas counterculture and as one of
the most influential cultural
movements of the 20th century. This statement originally made about the
writers of the 50s is also a true expression of Hip-Hop music and its relationship with society.
This album is the recording of readings by Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso & Peter Orlovsky of poems they wrote that have never before been heard! It took place in New York in 1992
and was organised by Jeff Gordon, who was also instrumental in the release of the album. The poetry and the manner of the poets heard here on this recording is remarkable and a pure joy to listen to. Despite age and time and convention they have continued to write and create as they once did.
2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the legendary Beat Generation series – therefore BBE proudly presents the first ever digital release of this remarkable poetry album.
