Marley Marl

The Queensbridge projects in Long Island City are legendary as far as Hip Hop is concerned. Not coincidentally, it served as the original stomping ground for legendary DJ/Producer Marley Marl. Ask any enthusiast about their top 3 Hip Hop producers of all time and nine times out of ten, it will feature this legend. In addition to working with Mr. Magic on the groundbreaking “Mr. Magic’s Rap Attack” Marley is responsible for such Hip Hop classics as “The Bridge” by MC Shan, “The Symphony” with the original juice crew. Marley’s productions spawned many other hits with Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, Craig G and Roxanne Shante. Also to his credit he also won a Grammy for his work with LL Cool J (Mama Said Knock You Out LP)– the first for Def Jam Records.

In 1989, he started his own show “In Control” featuring such DJ’s as Clark Kent, Pete Rock and HOT 97’s own Funkmaster Flex. He was reunited with Pete Rock in 1994 as they took over “Future Flava’s on HOT 97. The show has grown to the point where it can be heard weekly in 14 markets. With this Marley hopes to bridge the gap in Hip Hop, both nationally and internationally.

While you’re waiting for the album, tune in to him on “Future Flavas” Sunday nights from 10 - 11 on Hot 97 NYC or on BBC Radio 1 on occasional Friday’s with Tim Westwood.
